Montessori Math Materials

The purpose of learning with math materials is to get children to learn first from something concrete before they learn abstract concepts. This will be a strong basis to learn math.

Math materials can be introduced to children starting at 4. Kids can first learn the concept of number and quantity using number rods or counters and numbers. At 6, they begin to count using beads.
